    Powerful and lightweight

Our big and heavy Dirt Devil Platinum Force quit after 5 years of service and we decided to try something lighter and much less expensive. The Breeze arrived in 3 days, even with free shipping - thanks Amazon!Assembly was a breeze, just 4 screws. We have over 1500 sq ft of carpeted areas and steps so I put the new vacuum to work.Pros:-- Price (and I also used a gift certificate) - sweet!-- Lightweight! What a difference it makes.-- Very powerful. It sucked a full dirt container from our house.-- Thermal protective device - according to the manual this will shut off the motor to prevent overheating (what our old vacuum did not have)Cons:-- No HEPA filter out of the box but the next time I replace the filter I can get a HEPA filter from Amazon-- To use the hose (on the steps, inside car) I needed to detach the main hose and connect the special hose. The Breeze is a mixe bag(less) of good and not so good

First off, how do you say "mixed bag" about a "bagless" vacuum? Well however you say it, here is my opinion on it - the good and the bad. I purchased mine as a second vac, and despite past nightmares with entry bagless vacs, wanted something I could empty after each occasional use vs. store away with a partly filled bag.On the pro side: This unit is VERY light in weight. Great for those with arthritis or anyone who is carrying a vacuum up and down stairs. What is not lightweight is the power - it definitely has good suction. I also like the slightly narrower width whem compared to most other vacuums - 13" wide vs the more common 15" wide may not seem like much, but this fits in narrow places yet is still a full power vac.On the neutral side: Emptying is easy, but like most entry level bagless units, the filter is a mess to deal with. Best bet is, from time, use a second vac to clean this units filter, or used canned air outside upwind.Attachments are okay... 3/5 A. Maier (Fort Wayne, IN) - See all my reviews, May 11, 2008

Built Like a Tank, Sounds Like One, Too!

I've had my Dirt Devil Breeze for (3?+) years now (Obviously an older version but based on what I see from the picture nothing had changed much.) Bought this as replacement to a previous vacuum cleaner which had the "fan" (not sure if this is the correct word for it) that was in the path of the dirt (I believe that was a hoover). I used it to pick up some solid object and got stuck in the "fan" which caused it to break on me. The design of the breeze was a lot better since the filter catches objects before it gets to the suction mechanism. Overall, does what its supposed to do.Cons:- The exhaust out in front was definitely a design "duh". But you wouldn't realize it till you use it for picking up light material (e.g. small bird feathers).- Is there an easier way to switch from bottom suction to the onboard tools?- Emptying the canister is definitely a hassle (but sames me money in the long run)- *LOUD* And I cannot say this enough. My unit is a... 2/5 M. LAPITAN (Harrisburg, PA) - See all my reviews, December 26, 2008

    Terrific Performer and Outstanding Value

Approximately three years ago, my $200 Eureka vac finally stopped working and I purchased the featherlite to replace it. At that time I lived in a 1,400 sf apartment. Now I live in a 2,500 sft home. For the past three years, this vacuum has served our family well. Pros:1. Inexpensive. $40 or less in most places.2. It picks up dirt, fuzz (and legos) as well or better than any other vacuum I've ever used. Really. Just change the bag when it gets full.3. Light weight. It's very easy to manuver and my younger kids can use it.4. Simplicity. This is a basic vac. It's easy to change the bag, wind the cord, and pull hair/crud out of the roller if necessary.5. It's got a bag. This is a personal preference, but every bagless upright I've ever used creates a small dust storm when you empty it. The bag system on this one works well.Cons:1. I don't expect it to go past 5 years. It's clearly designed for low cost and... 5/5 GeekDaddy (New England USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil M085590RED Featherlite Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen) Approximately three years ago, my $200 Eureka vac finally stopped working and I purchased the featherlite to replace it. works fine after a year

I was suprised to see that some of the other reviews portray this vacuum as useless. I bought mine from Target a year ago and it works wonderfully. Only complaints is that it's still pretty 'clunky' to carry around and that when you want to use the attachments it's hard to get the hose out. I've gone through a Shark brand vacuum that broke after 2 uses and an Orek XL that ate it's own cord but couldn't pick up Cheerios that my daughter spilled. I've had bad luck with vacuums but this one is doing just fine after 200+ uses. 4/5 R. McHenry (MN, USA) - See all my reviews, December 19, 2008

Can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch but breaks

UPDATE After about 5 Months the part of the hose that connects to the motor ( see my pic) has had a piece break off that locks on the little peg; and now the end of the hose has a vertical crack in it where the attachments would connect. My concern all along after assembling this was the durability factor.I have a rainbow canister that I have decided to retire do the intensive assembly required for its operation. You have to fill the tank with water then place it it's caddy, place the motor on top of tank and then attach the hose from the power head to the motor. Then do the reverse to empty the water from the tank. So I decided to get an upright that you can just plug in and go.I'm not sold yet on the bag less uprights so I decided to go with the old tried and true one's with a bag. I first looked at the Eureka Upright Vacuum Cleaner 1934A, had an impressive review but no attachments and only a 5 amp motor and a little more than I wanted to spend... 1/5 Gerald Balmes "Jerry B" (Washington) - See all my reviews, October 6, 2009

    Shockingly light!

I bought this vacuum cleaner as I had previously had a simmilar model in Germany. I was shocked by how light it is and was not confident in how well it would clean, but it does surprisingly well and after a few days' use, I trust it to last.It sucks well, has small but effective wheels on the sides of the hose at the head which ensure it won't scratch hard flooring and the rubber-ish surface on the two big wheels mean that it moves reliably over my varnished hardwood floor without marking. The little independently rotating wheel underneath, which enables it to move freely in all directions, broke off from my original model in Germany - that does not appear to be any more sturdy on this version, but I'll add a comment later if it happens.Overall, this vacuum cleaner is light and effective, moves well across my hard flooring without marking, and appears to be equally good at cleaning my rugs! 5/5 eV - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Excellent for bare floors

My previous vacuum had those motorized brush heads. It was fine, but not having any carpets in the house, I felt I was simply using a machine that had features that I did not used to their full potential. All these features also had a weight that I had to drag around while vacuuming. With this Dirt evil canister model, I had all that I needed: lightweight to quickly pick up dust, dirt and a little bit of dog hair (I have a Lhasa Apso). It's extremly easy to empty as well! Its power cord is fine for me, as I have have read somewhere on the net that some users find of somewhat short. If you have one electric outlet per room, you should be fine. I find it's power to be more than adequate: I was able to pick up some of my dog's food pellets hidden in some corners. I got this item on special at 60$ and I'm more than happy with it! Makes vacuuming much easier, lighter and faster. This model might not be powerful enough if you have a heavy shedding dog... My mom has a Pembroke... 5/5 Q. T. Excellent Performer

I was quite surprised at how well this little guy picks up. The motor is 10 amps and this probably helps with the noise level as it is not too loud, but it has plenty of power. The floor tool actually sticks to the floor to some degree from the suction, and the design of it allows it to suck up the entire width of the tool and even a couple of inches out. I have hard wood floors and had no problems picking up the fur balls that my Blue Russian produces, this stuff seems to be attracted to the walls and corners. I also had no problems picking up dirt and debris my children seem to produce. I am 5'11 and the metal tube is adjustable and on the longest extension feels comfortable. I need a vacuum that I can use 1-2 times a week and not have it feel like a chore, and I think I found it.This is my first canister, so I am no expert. The build is somewhat cheap, but this is a sub $100 vacuum so in line with what I would expect. I could not find any major manufacture flaws. The... 5/5 J. My favorite house-cleaning tool.

I have used this every day for years (I can't remember how many--but at least four years). I recently bought a new one only because I was afraid of scratching my floors due to the rollers not turning as well as they had before. I moved the old one down to my basement work area, and use the new one in the main living areas.I have three dogs (previously four) and two house rabbits, all of whom go through times of heavy shedding. During those times I sometimes vacuum certain areas twice a day. There has never been any maintenance problem with this vacuum cleaner. The suction is strong enough for me to do my rag rugs and area rugs, and the rollers don't scratch my wood floors. It's easy on my back, conveniently converts to a hand vac, and is easy to take out and use at a moment's notice (no tedious unwinding of long cord). One reviewer did write that this vacuum is hard to clean. It Does Suck...

and that's a good thing... i have this model, a 3106-1 - the Bissell Featherweight Bagless, and a very similar model from the same manufacturer (both are made in China), the 38B1-3 - the Bissell 3-in-1 Vac...these are nearly identical and cost exactly the same locally and on-line... i say 'nearly identical,' as they weigh the same, have the same length cord, share the same ergonomics (handle, cord storage, assembly, emptying, etc.), and similar suction...rest assured that this model will work just as well, if not better than the 3-in-1... but here are the differences:- this model has a 1.2A motor, whereas the 3-in-1 has a 2A motor - nod to 3-in-1- both models come with a crevice tool, as does the 3-in-1 - even score- this model has an opaque canister, so you cannot see how much dirt has been vac'd, whereas the 3-in-1 is translucent - nod to 3-in-1 - one star off on my review- both models are easy to empty - even... 3/5 willie "roadie" (pineapple park, FL, USA) - See all my reviews, October 1, 2010

    Awesome!

Is it too much to ask for a vacuum to pick up stray pieces of paper, not to spit dirt out the back, and be light? This one fits the bill. I owned a dirt devil featherlite 9 years ago but after my husband touched it after 8 years, it didn't suck much anymore. Up till then it worked great. So I bought a vacuum that cost triple this vacuum thinking more expensive so it should be a wonderful vacuum. NOT! It didn't work well at all. Wouldn't pick up papers and kept shredding paper over the carpet, wouldn't suck it up. It also kept spitting dirt out the back on hard floors, or at least every direction except up the canister. I had a herniated disc for 10 months, every time I used the expensive vacuum, it was so heavy and bulky it kept throwing my back out more and kept me down for a week in pain. I was so happy to see kohl's had the new improved version of my old featherlite. It works as good if not better than the last one I had. It sucks really well. Horrid

Well, this is the last time I believe these reviews. This doesn't pick up anything. The first time I used it I had to go over the same area 3 times. This will be sold at the next rummage sale. The only good thing about it is it's lightweight. Wonder why? Because it does nothing. 1/5 dEadDollY "dD" (Milwaukee, WI) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) A cheap quick fix

I wanted a lightweight, compact vacuum to use every evening after dinner on the kitchen floor. Our regular vac was too bulky to pull out for quick jobs, and we didn't have a spot to charge a cordless. I settled on the Featherweight because it was small enough to hang from my mop rack and only cost $20.This vac is ideal for picking up dust and pet hair on wood or tile floors. However, I've found that with larger, heavier items (such as spilled dog food), the vac often has to be lifted up over the item and placed right down on top of it in order to pick it up; if I just push the vacuum over dog food, it often just pushes the dog food in front of the vacuum head instead of sucking it up. Removing the vac head and using this as a hand vac works much better for picking up dog food and the like.I've also found that items about the size of a marble (again, spilled dog food) get jammed right behind the plastic shield covering the intake opening of the vac. A "must have"

This is easy to use and very light weight. It was just what I needed between weekly visits from the wonderful person who actually vacuums for me (I HATE vacuuming with a passion).I have a cat and a dog and I garden (sloppily) so I needed something like this that I'd actually use. I took it out of the box, assembled it in about a minute (without even having to read the directions) and I cleaned up my kitchen. It pulled up an amazing amout of fur, etc. Now I'm looking for things to clean. It took me a few trys to get the emptying part down, but it's easy. Just remove the main unit from the "stick" and empty it over a trash can or empty it over a piece of newspaper on the floor. Since the body is plastic a bit of the fine dust may cling to the outer case, so have a damp paper towel handy to give it a quick exterior wipe. No big deal. The price is so incredibly reasonable that I bought another one to keep next to the kitty litter box. 5/5 N. Silver "Cats Rule!" - See all my reviews, May 27, 2005

Still a great vac if not for two issues

I was excited to purchase a new stick vac after lots of research and I bought this stick vac for three reasons: (1) I have two toddlers who drop crumbs and food and such in our kitchen every hour of every day in every corner, (2) the price was awfully right and (3) I have rarely seen a 5-star item on this site. The reviews for this Bissell are right on the money -- it is perfect for bare floors, has impressive suction and is lightweight for the quick everyday clean-up. Goodbye broom. Rest easy big and heavy upright. Unfortunately, two issues arose. It is still a hand vac in that the clean-up of the cup (or nose cone) is still a bit messy. When you first open it, the filter is right there -- with the lint, hair etc. dangling from it and some pieces static-clinging to the unit. (My current hand vac has the filter tucked inside so that when you first open it, this doesn't happen.) This vac must be opened over or in a wide mouth garbage can, and I can see trying to hold on to the... 3/5 LHaskins (Midwest) - See all my reviews This review is from: BISSELL 3106A Featherweight Lightweight Vacuum (Kitchen) I was excited to purchase a new stick vac after lots of research and I bought this stick vac for three reasons: (1) I have two toddlers who drop crumbs and food and such in our kitchen every hour of every day in every corner, (2) the price was awfully right and (3) I have rarely seen a 5-star item on this site. very powerful, somewhat ugly

I got tired of cleaning and replacing filters, so went to Fry's and picked this up for thirty-five dollars. Very powerful 12 amp motor, and easy to push around. Assembly was straight forward, five screws which the helpful manual describes in great detail. Cord is long enough, and the onboard tools are useful. Only downside is the tools don't stow away neatly as in the more expensive models, but not worth losing any stars. One neat thing is the light, not really sure if it'll ever be helpful, perhaps for nighttime vacuuming? Better than my Rainbow If it holds up & It Didn't

Update: After operating a few months of operation the end of the hose that connects to the base had a piece break off and has a vertical crack. Now I have to use a piece of duct tape to keep it attached. Durability was a big question mark on this model.I have a rainbow canister that I have decided to retire do the intensive assembly required for its operation. You have to fill the tank with water then place it it's caddy, place the motor on top of tank and then attach the hose from the power head to the motor then plug in the power head to the main unit. Then do the reverse to empty the water from the tank. So I decided to get an upright that you can just plug in and go.I'm not sold yet on the bag less uprights so I decided to go with the old tried and true one's with a bag. I first looked at the Eureka Upright Vacuum Cleaner 1934A, had an impressive review but no attachments and only a 5 amp motor and a little more than I wanted to spend.Next I... 1/5 Gerald Balmes "Jerry B" (Washington) - See all my reviews, October 7, 2009

Garbage - not even worth $40

Bought this POS vacuum and was very sorry I did. Finally got so frustrated with things breaking on it and the jaw droppingly poor design that I pitched it in the trash. Faults range from black rubber that leaves marks on white walls to a handle that is simply screwed on to the frame (which makes a for a weak assembly). Clearly this vacuum was designed to accomplish several goals in this order:Look cool (red & black)Be replaced in a couple yearsBe cheap to build and cheap to shipUse cheap partsBe quick to designUltimately this vacuum is for people who do not know enough to buy a proper one. After that, I spent a lot of time researching vacuums and finally found a vacuum worthy of me - a Dyson! The Dyson is the first properly engineered vacuum I have found and frankly provides a great deal of embarrasement to the people who designed this Dirt Devil. Unfortunately, they cost hundreds of dollars. But I expect it to last me... 1/5 G. Butler (Charlotte, NC United States) - See all my reviews, September 28, 2011
