About this book
Major Marketing Campaigns Annual profiles 100 major marketing initiatives of the previous calendar year. Entry articles, averaging 4,000 words in length, look at the advertising campaign's or market initiative's historical context, target market, expected outcomes, competition, marketing strategy and development hurdles and the outcome of the campaign -- what worked, what didn't and why. The entry ends with further information for researchers -- references to competitors and annotated citations to relevant campaigns and periodical articles.

The Girl's Guide to Absolutely Everything

Creator: Melissa Kirsch | Reference - 2006-11-16

Melissa Kirsch is a writer who's spent four years writing and researching this 600-plus-page book, who's consulted the experts, assembled a peer group of thirty wise women, and considered all the issues-- and who can make you crack up while describing how to prepare for a job interview or discussing the pitfalls of pantyhose. She covers Health & Body, or "Real Women Eat Meat, Get Pap Smears and Negotiate Ceasefires with Their Full-Length Mirrors; Etiquette; Money/Finance, from credit cards and credit reports to the rent-vs-buy debate; Career; Dating, Sex and Romance; the emotional intricacies of Friends and Family, which debunks the myth that you can't fire your mother or that sibling rivalries never end; Living/De cor; even a pragmatic yet inspiring chapter on Spirituality & Self-Discovery, which argues (and gives solutions for) the importance of finding time for yourself, and deals with issues of integrity and emotional truth, therapy, faith, and positive self-love. This SUCKER really SUCKS!!! (in the best possible way)

I apologize for the length of this "review". In the process of deciding which model of hand vac to buy, I ran into a number of confusing issues.First, before this purchase (of 2 hand vacs), I have never bought any hand held vac that was NOT a Black & Decker DUST BUSTER. I suppose that is because they were the first to have a cordless/rechargeable hand vac, and inertia took over when it came time for me to replace them. By the time the thrill of having that first rechargeable hand held vac wore off, there were other companies making hand held vacs, but I stuck with B&D's DB's. I cussed them out over various things - mostly they just weren't very good. There were few choices of model; the accessories from one generation didn't fit the next generation even when the next generation came on the market with no accessories (dust brush, crevice tools, etc.). This was one of the few times in my life I put up with any serious product dissatisfaction. Shortly after I purchased my... 5/5 One Tree in the Forest (Del Rio, Tennessee, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Works very well but does *not* feel secure on the wall mount

This is a very nice little vacuum. I keep it in my garage, near the entrance from the kitchen, and use it for small jobs like cleaning the kids' crumbs off the car seats and floors, sucking up bugs and spiderwebs from the garage wall, cleaning food crumbs from crevices in the kitchen, and removing dust and crumbs from my computer keyboards and monitors. It has a small retractable brush that is very useful for car cleaning, and a plastic nozzle that can flip forwards to extend the reach, which is good for cleaning things high up and sucking up bugs.Apparently this device has a smart charger which does not simply keep the battery at full charge all the time but optimizes the recharging to extend the battery life. I have certainly not noticed any deterioration in the battery in the several months I have owned this vacuum.Opening the device to empty out the dirt is easy. Most of the dirt just drops out into the garbage. I like to use my central vac nozzle to... 3/5 PAUL BRADSHAW (CT, USA) - See all my reviews, April 1, 2011

    Good product

Update 06/16/10=is performing consist and pick up is better than most handhelds.I previously owned a Shark 15 volt with roller brush. It is getting old so I am shifting it to car clean up only. So when I shopped for a replacement, it was down to The Euro Pro Shark 16.9 volt with motorized brush or this one. I could not find the Dirt Devil in a store to look at, but did look at the Euro Pro in the store.I purchased the Dirt Devil because it had higher volts, the crevice tool is attached, and it is supposedly easier to empty the cup. However, this DD does not have the immediate power suction my old 15 volt Shark has. You have to be more methodical about it, and run the thing slower over the areas. It picks up good though. The Euro Pro has more bristles.I like the attached crevice tool, one less thing to keep up with.I really can't see the big deal that it is easier to empty the cup. 4/5 Mary B. poor suction power

I am really disappointed in this product. Although the vacuum sounds like it has alot of suction power, it really doesnt. I have to go over the area that i am trying to pick up some dirt several times. it almost gets to the point that it is easier to pick up or sweep up the dirt/item. This is while it is fully charged. 1/5 jah006 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Power to spare

This unit is so powerful it nearly jumps out of your hand when you hit the on button, and it leaves NOTHING behind. Picking up little crumbs and things from a carpet, it doesn't wait for the nozzle to suck it up, but starts sucking when the nozzle is about an inch away. This replaces a Dustbuster that's 20 years old. I've had an upright lightweight Dirt Devil for years that's served me well, and I'm hopeful this will do the same. I haven't used the brush yet except to see if it runs. I also haven't used it long enough to judge the endurance of the battery, but so far it's fine. Yes, it makes some noise. You can avoid the noise by getting a less powerful unit, but I think most people use cordless vacuums only a few minutes at a time, so the noise should be bearable for such brief use. 5/5 Michael Everett (Santa Monica) - See all my reviews, January 23, 2011

    A great little vacuum

Two cats and two fabric-covered couches, can you feel my pain? After a while, I was going nuts. I'd go broke buying the adhesive type lint rollers, the rubber ones (search for "sweepa") and the reusable brush type didn't do the job. All I'd heard about was dysons, dysons, dysons, so I started saving. But then I thought, hey, what I want is the little motorized roller brush attachment -- so I got online, started searching, and found this. I figured $40 as opposed to $500 was worth a try, especially with the good reviews.and it *was*. It gets all the cat hair off my couch, and the nice thing is that the hose just tugs right out and you can also get the little cracks and crevices without missing a beat. The "riser visor" thing, I thought was kinda silly til I started using it -- and it's great. You can vacuum horizontally and vertically, and for furniture, stairs, etc--a great feature. My only complaint is that it's just a *bit* heavy, especially for longer... 5/5 yupi (Long Island NY USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) A Perfect Machine.

I'd planned to get the small Dyson, but the reviews of this vacuum persuaded me to give it a try. It's absolutely excellent. It's the best handheld vacuum I've ever tried, and I've thrown more of these things away than I can remember. Fortunately, I've always saved the attachments. Sometimes they fit another model, sometimes they don't. Since there's no fancy coupling required to attach tools to the hose end of this one, its just friction, most fit it.This is a solid, powerful vacuum. The filter is heavy-duty and seems very durable. It's easily removed and reattached. I use those over-priced compressed air duster cans to blow all the dust and dog hair off of the filter. Between this and my full-size Dyson, there's probably more of the family dog outside the house than in by now. As for the weight of this machine, it is a little heavy, but then I only have to support its weight when doing vertical surfaces or carrying it around. When it's vacuuming stairs and furniture, I... 5/5 SLP (Elk Grove, CA United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I was Dramatically Impressed.

I have a cat. The cat has fur.I bought the Eureka EZ-Kleen to get the fur off the furniture.Did it ever.I was slackjawed with amazement to see the sheer amount of cat hair the little machine got up off visually pristine sofas and carpets. While Kitty does not have the Olympic shedding capabilities of my late hound dog, she still produces about an inch of vacuum cleaner fill per day. This is a great little machine and I will recommend it from the housetops. 5/5 Nancy Beiman "Northernexpress" (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Nice looking product. We bought four of them for our resort and restaurant. I picked this one because of the powerful battery voltage of 15.6V. But the battery life is terrible. Not much Suck for the Buck

For the price and proposed voltage it does little beyond what similar $19.95 models in other brands do. Why buy anything else?

All right...here's the skinny. Two weeks ago I ordered a Dyson "Animal" handheld from Amazon after agonizing about which handheld to buy. I need something for my carpeted steps. My little Kone handheld wasn't doing the job, and my big Dyson is too bulky to maneuver up and down the steps. The Dyson handheld pulled up that cat hair like whoa. But the Dyson has this stupid, stupid design feature, which is that there's no on/off switch. Instead it has a trigger-like thing, which you have to keep held down in order to keep the vacuum powered on. If you let go then it shuts off. Trying to maneuver that heavy handheld around the steps without letting go of the trigger was near impossible. I emailed Dyson about it (surely there must have been a trigger lock somewhere?) but when they failed to answer I sent it back to Amazon and ordered this Dirt Devil. The Dirt Devil does just as good a job as the Dyson, AND it has a proper on/off switch. The cord is... 5/5 Delamaine "Formerly Belacane" (Seattle Eastside) - See all my reviews, February 7, 2009

    Good Suction, Small Dirt Cup

I like the suction on this little handheld vacuum cleaner. It really picks up.What I don't like about it, however, is the very small dirt cup. I have a large dog, and I have to empty the cup every 4th or 5th step when he's shedding heavily. It also gets very hot, and doesn't really get into the corner of the stair. I've tried the attachments, but could not get them to work well with the lack of instructions that came with it.All in all, it's a good handheld, but it's not perfect. 3/5 Brenda "Mother of 2" (New York) - See all my reviews This review is from: Royal Appliance M0105 Dirt Devil Purpose For Pets Hand Vac (Kitchen) I like the suction on this little handheld vacuum cleaner. I agree with every review, FANTASTIC product!!!

This is the most powerful little vacuum I've ever had, The most ingenious invention is the little retractable crevice tool. In my whole life I've never attached a crevice tool even when I needed it just out of laziness. This just sucks up dust immediately in between anything. It doesn't hold alot of dust so after each use I just take an old dish/pot brush and brush off the filter. The dust sticks to the cloth filter and will not come off just by tapping it along side your garbage pail like the instructions say. Takes a minute and is well worth it as this is more powerful than my canister vacuum. I started to use it on a small area of my living room rug where lint always sticks at the entrance and ended up doing the whole rug and went on to other rooms. You'll love this powerful little sucker and end up writing a great review like I just did! 5/5 Crystal "AMAZON FAN" (Brooklyn, N.Y. USA) - See all my reviews, May 14, 2010

    Greatest Little Vac

This product is superior by design. I am not a real fan of some of the Dirt Devil products but they really got this one down pat. The vacuum is superior to any other that I have ever had in this category. The nose in the front that flips down gets into all those tuff places in your car seats. The filter is easy to clean and there are replacements available. I do like the very long cord that comes with this vac. Some others have a little cord that really is a sorry way to do things. The attachments work well for different applications. A great little vacuum is all I can say! 5/5 Bbt (Charlotte, N.C. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 4, 2010

    Totally worth the money!

I purchased this about a month ago to sanitize places that my Haan could not... I read lots of reviews and looked at several handheld steam cleaners and decided on this one... This is so worth the money... The attachments are wonderful and the steam seems endless... I originally bought this to help clean and sanitize my daughter's toys, exersaucer, jumperoo and many more... Not only does it wipe away all the dirt in the tiny crevices, but it works everywhere in the house! I used one of the attachments to clean and sanitize my couch cushions.. not only does it leave it dry to the touch but wow did alot of dirt come off! Comes with a window sweege which works absolute wonders.. I am very pleased with this product and would definitely recommend this to anyone who needs a great steam cleaner with lots of attachments! It has lots of steam and very powerful! 5/5 Lauren Matusiak "New Mommy" (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews, November 28, 2010

    Tiny Mighty

The Tiny Mighty is what it should be called. It is smaller than I thought it would be but, due to fine onstruction, it works really well. This is no "steam Jenny" I am used to using years ago, which supplied almost unlimited steam. But, the DIRT DEVIL steamer does do a really good job. The attachments are small (compared to a vacuum cleaner) but, are adequate to do the jobs I have done. You will be impressed how well it melts cooked foods off the walls of your microwave. A neighboring apartment contracted bed bugs. I bought this to be on the defensive. I steamed the threshold and the bed and vacuum the place to make sure none (if any) should walk down the hall to my place. Steam is a non chemical way to kill those pests. I'm ready. I'll be steaming every two weeks until I find out otherwise about that apartment's situation. Nice product, DIRT DEVIL. 4/5 Carmine Zappala (Reading, Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Where is the power?

The Dirt Devil starts off great, but it relies on a single, relatively expensive replacement filter. After a few minutes of use, it was clogging itself.I bought this product and the Black and Decker Dust Buster CHV 1400 at the same time from Amazon. The Black and Decker is not only a better product but cheaper at initial price and in the long run. The B&D picks up broken glass and spilled rice without issue, and relies on multiple cleaning features, that just need a dump in the trash. Much longer time before you have to replace the expensive disposable filter. Better battery life, and power. The dirt devil's only advantage is that is comes in silver and sleeker. The B&D is by far the better product.I am updating this review now 3 years later. The Vac still works fine, just used it today. So upping this to 4 stars. $40 product lasting 3 years, got to be something said about that. Howerver still like the traditional vacs better like the B&D. 4/5 Jeffrey S. Powerful but a few cons

I purchased the vacuum through Amazon. It is indeed a powerful handheld vacuum. Cons: the replacement filters are expensive $5 each, plus postage and you can only get them through Dirt Devil. Then you also need an adaptor, $2, for the filters. The filters are paper, clog up very quickly, and are not cleanable. The retractable nozzle is very handy but swivels on two very small plastic nibs/arms. One of these arms broke just two months after I got the vacuum and Dirt Devil says I now have to purchase the entire front "cup" for $9, I cannot just purchase the swivel arms. If I had known the cost of the filters and that they do not last very long, and that the nozzle arms are not very durable(it is a poor design), I would not have purchased the vacuum. Too expensive to maintain.P.S. I did get the front cup, so I could use the swivel arms, Dirt Devil did not charge me, this was covered under warranty. That surprised me. I still do not like the way the... 3/5 Nan (Tenn.) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Extreme Power Hand Vac, M0914 (Kitchen) I purchased the vacuum through Amazon. AWESOME

This 14 volt handheld vacuum is awesome. It picks up anything and everything in its path. It even has the capability to pick up crumbs and dirt in between my sofa and in my car seats. It's cordless so I can take it anywhere. I recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap and efficent handheld vacuum. 5/5 Kitchen and Houseware Enthusiast (New York City, NY) - See all my reviews, September 24, 2004

Little sucker could suck a golfball thru a garden hose

This little sucker is unbelievable. The power is fantastic, the torque from the motor actually makes the vacuum jump in your hand when you flip the on switch.I have a couch in my basement that is the favorite place for my two cats to sleep. The couch had so much hair on it that the couch looked grey instead of purple. I spent 5 minutes with the pet hair eraser and the couch was literally hair free. The rubber attachment on the front works way better than motorized brushes that quickly clog with hair. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is a little loud, but I guess with power comes a little extra noise. I love this little vac, why pay all that money for a Dyson when this little guy works great!Edit: The one and only thing I don't like about the vac is the way the air coming out of the unit sometimes blows the hair into the air if you're not careful how you position the machine while you use it. Although considering how much air this... 5/5 Erick Van De Burg "F'ing pissed" (Holland, MI United States) - See all my reviews, November 20, 2008

    Awesome little vacuum

I was shocked at how well this thing works. I used my upright vacuum on my stairs first then went over them again with the the Bissell and could not believe how much dog and cat hair it got up so I moved to my sofa which has always been hard to get the hair off and it worked like a charm. It has alot of power for such a small vacuum. 5/5 Mortisha (Virginia) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) LOVE THIS LITTLE HAND VAC

I love this little vac. It has a rubber front that catches the hair so that the powerful suction can pull it into the bagless container. Best of all, this is an electric hand vac so no recharging and always ready to go. It works great on sofas and chairs as well as carpeted stairs.I have two long haired cats and 1 dog so there's lots of animal fur. 5/5 A. It's a filter. It filters.

It's the OEM filter, so I can't say that it filters any better or worse than the original filters, because it does, and because it is the original (not an aftermarket filter). If you have a Dirt Devil hand vac that takes one of these filters, buy a few and keep the filters clean. It really helps these little vacs. 5/5 William Stein "CJ" (Colorado Springs) - See all my reviews, September 18, 2009

    Searched high and low

I searched every home store I could think of locally for the filters and no one even sells the vacuum anymore, let alone the filter. I even went online to most of the stores and it is not being carried! I know I'll need more filters, so I bought multiple to avoid the shipping cost. 5/5 Sarah K.
