Brush and Beater Bar are worthless
The good:The suction is good. The long power cord is good. The bagless part is good. The weight of the unit is good. The bad:The hose doesn't really stretch more than a few inches. So when using the wand attachment you don't have a lot of "hose" to work with. So that's bad. Also, the unit "vents" a LOT of air out the side. When I clean my hard-wood staircase this winds up blowing more cathair and dust off the stairs than the wand sucks up. This would probably not be a problem on carpet, except for ...The UGLY:The revolving brush-head is NOT motorized. Instead, it spins like a "pinwheel" from the power of the vacuum. The vacuum, while good, is simply NOT powerful enough to spin the brush and beater-bar while held against a sofa-cushion, or carpet, or much of anything really. The revolving brush attachment is *completely* worthless. If all you need is a powerfull hand-held,... 1/5 Somebody (KETTERING, OHIO United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil M08245X Power Reach Hand Vac (Kitchen) The good:The suction is good. The long power cord is good. The bagless part is good. The weight of the unit is good. The bad:The hose doesn't really stretch more than a few inches. I'm really sorry I purchased this vacuum. Yes, it has a beater bar, but the lightest pressure (such as gravity) will keep the bar from spinning. Whatever dirt it picks up often falls back out of the vacuum head/attachment head, so you do twice the vacuuming for the same effect. This is a very poor product and isn't worth any amount of money. My 10 year old Dirt Devil with the worn motor and clumsy attachments does a better job.One positive thing - the box looks nice. 1/5 Rosemary L. Moore "rosmarinaus" (Iowa City, IA United States) - See all my reviews, February 28, 2004No suction, brush doesn't work--waste of money
If there were a rating lower than 1 star, I would have used it, because this vacuum doesn't even deserve 1 star. In a moment of madness, I recently gave my old Dirt Devil to my daughter and bought myself the so-called "new and improved" model as a replacement. Big mistake. My old Dirt Devil was a workhorse and was used to spot clean the upholstery and floors in our RV, truck and car, and home, along with cleaning lots of other things such as draperies, pet beds, etc. I used it daily for 15 years and never, ever had a problem with it. This new bagless Dirt Devil has never worked right. Immediately, the revolving brush quit revolving. I returned the vacuum for a new one; the revolving brush never did revolve on it, even right out of the box. The vacuum loses suction within a minute or two because of the useless filter system. The Dirt Devil company won't take the unit back, and apparently they can't fix the brush problem, either, based on what I heard from appliance repair... 1/5 Carolyn Mathews "Displaced Texan" (Horse Prairie, Montana) - See all my reviews, August 10, 2006Beltless and bagless for easy maintenancePowerful 6-amp handheld vacuum with versatile applicationsDetachable power nozzle with revolving brush for hard-to-reach cleaningOnboard hose and crevice tool for nooks and corners15-3/4 by 6 inches by 9 inches -

This thing sucks good!
I don't think I've ever written a review for a product before, but I feel this baby truly deserves some recognition! I am so amazed at how well this vaccuum does its job! I thought you had to pay a lot of money to get a good vaccuum, you know, one that really works, so I went and bought a Dyson DC-25 Animal to see what it could do. I don't own any pets, but I thought that a vaccuum designed to pick up even all the pet hair in a house would be the best, and I'd heard all the hype about Dyson and how it's supposed to be so great. Then I brought it home, tried it out and thought, "really? this is supposed to be worth slmost $600?" I could not justify all that money for something that seemed to work no better than all the others I'd had before, so I took it back, disappointed. I decided to buy this dirt devil instead for less than a fifth the price based off reviews here, and man am I glad I did!! I tried it out as soon as it arrived and it sucked up stuff even the Dyson had... 5/5 first timer - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Let me just say that this vacuum is absolutely amazing! My husband picked it out online sunday night for me and it got delivered today as I was on my way out the door and as soon as I got back home I ripped that baby open. Easy assembly, only two screws for the handle. Plugged her in and fired her up. Now I vacuumed yesterday with the only vacuum I had left (Hoover circa 1965 that had belonged to my grandmother), as I had blown up a $150 Bissell a few months back. The sad thing is, the antique Hoover picks up probably a tad bit more then the 5 year old Bissell. I knew that this new Dirt Devil would be picking up some of what the Hoover had left behind, but I was truly amazed. I filled up the canister with just my living room, which is 12x17. I have two short haired dogs, so I frequently use the Carpet Fresh that helps to release dog hair from carpet. The canister had about 1.5 inches of Carpet Fresh in it, and then there was about a 4 inch pile of dog hair all the way around. I just... 5/5 Kimberly Simmons - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil UD70095 Power Reach Multi Cyclonic Pet Bagless Upright (Kitchen) Let me just say that this vacuum is absolutely amazing! My "good" vac died on me, and, as luck would have it, I found a discarded "Light" Dirt Devil... Never wanted to get a bagless machine, but I was so impressed with my little find that I thought I'd get a better model for my needs (discovered that opening the dirt canister over a toilet does the trick).Well, just blow me over. This UD70095 is one heck of a machine. Dog hair is sort of a condiment in my home. It is all over even with my best cleaning efforts. Well, the amount of dog hair and general crud that the UD70095 picks up is simply amazing. Really has made a difference in the "condiment" situation. Also, it doesn't get "clogged" up with the dog hair in the dirt bin. I like that the machine has various levels for carpet heights, it has a light and the longest crevice tool I have ever come across. For the money, you simply cannot get a better machine. 5/5 Barbara Murray - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This SUCKER really SUCKS!!! (in the best possible way)
I apologize for the length of this "review". In the process of deciding which model of hand vac to buy, I ran into a number of confusing issues.First, before this purchase (of 2 hand vacs), I have never bought any hand held vac that was NOT a Black & Decker DUST BUSTER. I suppose that is because they were the first to have a cordless/rechargeable hand vac, and inertia took over when it came time for me to replace them. By the time the thrill of having that first rechargeable hand held vac wore off, there were other companies making hand held vacs, but I stuck with B&D's DB's. I cussed them out over various things - mostly they just weren't very good. There were few choices of model; the accessories from one generation didn't fit the next generation even when the next generation came on the market with no accessories (dust brush, crevice tools, etc.). This was one of the few times in my life I put up with any serious product dissatisfaction. This is a very nice little vacuum. I keep it in my garage, near the entrance from the kitchen, and use it for small jobs like cleaning the kids' crumbs off the car seats and floors, sucking up bugs and spiderwebs from the garage wall, cleaning food crumbs from crevices in the kitchen, and removing dust and crumbs from my computer keyboards and monitors. It has a small retractable brush that is very useful for car cleaning, and a plastic nozzle that can flip forwards to extend the reach, which is good for cleaning things high up and sucking up bugs.Apparently this device has a smart charger which does not simply keep the battery at full charge all the time but optimizes the recharging to extend the battery life. I have certainly not noticed any deterioration in the battery in the several months I have owned this vacuum.Opening the device to empty out the dirt is easy. Most of the dirt just drops out into the garbage. I like to use my central vac nozzle to... 3/5 PAUL BRADSHAW (CT, USA) - See all my reviews, April 1, 2011Super powerful and easy to use

Powerful, Noisy, Awkward
I got this vac for cleaning up a small space, just a room, and did not need a whole upright thing.I can say that this unit must have a very powerful motor- when you turn it on, it sounds like a Corvette at 6000 rpm and there does not seem to be anything built into the product to lessen this clamor. The unfortunate thing is that all this power as you would think from the sound(s) that it makes does not seem to translate into a lot of suction power. But the brush is very powerful and distinguishis this product from other "Dustbuster" type hand vacs.As a handheld vaccum, I do find its brush powerful to get things like cookie crumbs and whatnot out of a cheap synthetic carpet but beware, it is really loud. Well, one other good thing is that the bags are easily available.Probably you can find another handheld vac that is quieter but beware that some "Dustbuster" - style vacs do not have a sweeping powerful brush, they just inhale loose debris. So consider it... 4/5 Twain - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Ultra Power Handheld Vacuum (Kitchen) I got this vac for cleaning up a small space, just a room, and did not need a whole upright thing.I can say that this unit must have a very powerful motor- when you turn it on, it sounds like a Corvette at 6000 rpm and there does not seem to be anything built into the product to lessen this clamor. The unfortunate thing is that all this power as you would think from the sound(s) that it makes does not seem to translate into a lot of suction power. If only we had went online and look at these reviews before buying this little monster, we would ALL be a happier family. Not only is this thing LOUD, it SHRIEKS. I've gotten headaches from using this thing. And the suction power doesn't make up for it at all. I've had to pick up some pretty obvious dirt bits, while it just glides over/pushes it around. The hot air being blown in your face is also extremely unpleasent. Try being in a car in the middle of June with a furnace blowing in your face. The only thing you'll be happy with is the nice definition in your arm after having to carry this thing around. It's a work-out and a chore at the same time! The cord is also a complete hassle to roll up. So much so, we just throw it in the closet in a bundle. My mom even does this, and she folds socks.... This vacuum proved too loud, heavy and bulky. I almost never used the Devil as a normal handheld vac, instead opting to attach and use the included hose when cleaning carpet debris in my car. However, the hose is not long enough to comfortably vacuum your car without either holding the vacuum in one hand and vacuuming with the other, or placing the vacuum down inside your car as you vacuum (excruciatingly loud, and it seemed to effectively swirl/spew dust around my already dirty car interior -- disqualification, on both counts.) Running the unit for 20 minutes or so caused it to get very hot around the motor, and occasionally you could smell rubber. Also, the intake seemed to get clogged fairly easily when there was a lot of debris like cat hair, carpet fibers or string. All in all, not a desirable unit to own... Dirt Devil Power Reach Multi-Cyclonic Canister - SD40030

Great Value - Perfect for shorter pile carpet and bare floors
I received my new Dirt Devil Multi-Cyclonic two days ago. Put it through its paces. It's better made (better build quality) than I thought a Dirt Devil would be. Very impressed. Cord is on the shorter side, but that's a small concession for a very reasonably priced vacuum. The brush bar in the Power Nozzle has some good, and one not so good quality issues. For the good: the belt cannot break (geared belt) with a reset button if it jams. The height adjustment works perfectly, and I'm delighted there's a headlight (although a light on the front is not a deal breaker for me - it is for others). The brush roller is narrow in diameter - so you'll find yourself cleaning hair from it more so than if it was larger in diameter. The opening on the bottom of the Power Nozzle is also narrow - that's to optimize the pick up on bare floors, which it does superbly. I never saw any other power nozzle (with brush in OFF position) pick up as well on bare floors. However, on carpets, it's... 5/5 T. Growing up my parents had a very expensive canister vac, and as a young girl I thought it was fun to vacuum, now it's NOT so much fun - and this will take some getting used to before I decide if I like this canister after using uprights for years. I have a 2 year old Dirt Devil upright and it has some similar features as this, such as the one-touch-to-empty dirt cup which I love. In general, uprights are easier to use because you don't have the canister tagging along behind you, getting caught on corners of furniture, and even the walls. However, the uprights are also heavier to push and can't go in every nook and cranny like a canister can. This vacuum was easy to assemble - I didn't bother looking at the instructions to hook-up the handle/wand to the hose, and to the canister, it was easy to figure out just by looking at the various parts and snapping them together. However, as to vacuum use, I did read the manual and I wish they had made it a little easier such as larger... 3/5 Yarii (Near Greentucky) - See all my reviews, September 26, 2011Dirt Devil Power Reach Multi-Cyclonic Canister - SD40030
Well this is a product from Dirt Devil and the details have been published on DirtDevil's site only 2-3 days back.[...]Its well made, seems strong. The hose swivels at nearly every connection. The lock to leave the power brush upright seems fragile and will probably be the first thing to break. The light does not come on if the brush roll is not on. The vacuum is sufficiently wide, so the suction is not even on the entire width. This will be the problem for vacuums will no powered brushroll. Even on hard surfaces it is better to keep the brush roll on since it helps in picking up something struck beneath furniture..The canister is very easy to clean, cord seems very short and noise level is less than my old bissell bagless. Poor Quality - Same Cost as Brand Name
Paper too thin, get a HEPA - standard quality filter, it can be generic, if it paper quality was included in this filter, not worth a dime. This was my first replacement for my great little dirt devil. My vacuum is new and only 3 small rooms I vacuum regularly, but my dog tracks a lot of hair and mud so I need to replace the filter more often than most. This was the first F2 filter with the cylindrical cone shape I needed, so I ordered it without considering how the quality would differ. The paper is so thin in comparison to the name brand and original filter that instead of lasting through a dozen dirt-packed vacuums it lasted only through 2 dirt-packed vacuums. Barely, at that, since the paper was so thin I could not twist filer from top because it failed to untwist the bottom part, the stiff quality filters can be twisted (unlocked) if you grab it anywhere. Inexpensive and powerful
This is a very basic vacuum that does one thing well: clean. The brushes are so powerful that the movement forward is effortless, while the movement backward (toward you) drags, a bit. This DD is light and easily carried up/down stairs. It is just as strong as the wide range of vacuums by Eureka, Hoover, etc that fall in the $125 range. But this DD is very basic. It would work well as a primary vacuum or a secondary one that is used only on one floor or in a summer home. In either case, a good vacuum at a great price. 5/5 Peter G Levine - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil UD40235 Ultra Swivel Glide Bagless Upright (Kitchen) This is a very basic vacuum that does one thing well: clean. I love love love this vacuum. never knew how much dirt was in my carpet until I used it. This thing is very powerful. I have 2 cats and it just pulls the cat hair to it. I've had other dirt devils and none have worked as well on hard wood floors as this one which is odd since this is the least expensive of all of the dirt devils I've owned. The only thing I don't like about this vacuum is you have to hook and unhook the hose and the hose is way too short even with the extender. If you want an inexpensive vacuum with very good pick up power even on hard wood floors, this is the one. 4/5 angie27171 (Camden, NJ) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I have a low-pile shag carpet, and was really surprised (from reading other reviews) that this vacuum was hard to manuever. It did a good job cleaning, but just vacuuming my one bedroom apartment would leave me exhausted and sweaty! It likes one direction on the carpet, but not the other direction. Easy to clean, but not without getting dusty yourself. I've now purchased the Shark Navigator, fingers crossed, and will give this to my daughter when she gets her own place -- she's young enough to do the workout needed ;-) I'm a young 51, but really, vacuuming doesn't need to be this much work. Also, don't like that I have to attach the hose every time I want to use it. 3/5 C. Great Little Machine
Bottom line ... this is a great little machine that does the work it's meant to do. I used this machine for a solid 45 minutes while vacuuming two entire floors of my home - including stairs - one of the best parts was that this machine did not over-heat as with other 'bagless' vacuums I've purchased in the recent past (which were put out into the garbage!).I could see that the vacuum was performing from the dust and debris that was entering the dirt cup. My home has all hardwood floors with a "mud" throw at the various entrances. The vacuum works great on hardwood surfaces and also did a nice job on the thin non-slip entrance rugs. Assmebly was a snap ... literally. The vacuum is VERY lightweight which is a big plus in preventing scratches on hardwood. This vacuum also has a very quiet motor - you can actually hear the phone and/or doorbell while you're running the vacuum!Although I'm happy with my purchase and believe this is a great little machine, I... 5/5 Pleased Repeat Customer (New Jersey) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I bought this to clean cat litter off of carpet squares and bare floor tile. At first, it did what I bought it for, but just barely. After about two weeks, it began to act like it was full even though it wasn't and would leave a pile of cat litter when shut off. Maybe the filter was clogged, but it looked fine me. 1/5 S. It may seem that this vacuum cleaner costs less than others but it's definitely not worth it, even as a children's vacuum. It is very noisy for its size, and you'll have a lot of trouble cleaning the filter - all of the dirt gets on the filter and one has to breathe a lot of dust after opening the cleaner.I could go on with disadvantages until tomorrow, but instead, take more $$ and get yourself a decent vacuum! 1/5 Alex (Canada) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil Swift Stick (Kitchen) It may seem that this vacuum cleaner costs less than others but it's definitely not worth it, even as a children's vacuum. It is just a hair off from the tech specs for the product and unlike the original filter than came with my new vacuum, this one is very hard to fully lock into place. Update 06/16/10=is performing consist and pick up is better than most handhelds.I previously owned a Shark 15 volt with roller brush. It is getting old so I am shifting it to car clean up only. So when I shopped for a replacement, it was down to The Euro Pro Shark 16.9 volt with motorized brush or this one. I could not find the Dirt Devil in a store to look at, but did look at the Euro Pro in the store.I purchased the Dirt Devil because it had higher volts, the crevice tool is attached, and it is supposedly easier to empty the cup. However, this DD does not have the immediate power suction my old 15 volt Shark has. You have to be more methodical about it, and run the thing slower over the areas. It picks up good though. The Euro Pro has more bristles.I like the attached crevice tool, one less thing to keep up with.I really can't see the big deal that it is easier to empty the cup. 4/5 Mary B. This unit is so powerful it nearly jumps out of your hand when you hit the on button, and it leaves NOTHING behind. Picking up little crumbs and things from a carpet, it doesn't wait for the nozzle to suck it up, but starts sucking when the nozzle is about an inch away. This replaces a Dustbuster that's 20 years old. I've had an upright lightweight Dirt Devil for years that's served me well, and I'm hopeful this will do the same. I haven't used the brush yet except to see if it runs. I also haven't used it long enough to judge the endurance of the battery, but so far it's fine. Yes, it makes some noise. You can avoid the noise by getting a less powerful unit, but I think most people use cordless vacuums only a few minutes at a time, so the noise should be bearable for such brief use. 5/5 Michael Everett (Santa Monica) - See all my reviews, January 23, 2011Built-in crevice tool, power brushroll attachment, and charger includedHandheld vacuum cleaner with 18 volts of powerful suctionMeasures approximately 16-1/5 by 6-1/5 by 7 inches; 3-year limited warrantyLightweight, cordless design; 2-1/4-inch-wide nozzle; Energy Star rated battery chargerD-shaped handle; easy-empty dirt cup; reusable filter rinses clean
