Measuring advertising effectiveness

About this book
This volume includes edited and revised versions of the papers delivered and discussed at the recent Advertising and Consumer Psychology Conference. Following the theme of the conference -- "Measuring Advertising Effectiveness" -- the book blends academic psychology, marketing theory, survey methodology, and practical experience, while simultaneously addressing the problems and limitations of advertising. Acknowledging that advertisements are subtle, diverse, complex phenomena that require detailed investigation, this compilation explores the multidimensional nature of advertising's diverse effects from both academic and applied perspectives. Updates on theories and methods -- along with expert commentaries -- help to make this a valuable collection that will be of interest to advertising and marketing specialists and communications experts alike.

This SUCKER really SUCKS!!! (in the best possible way)

I apologize for the length of this "review". In the process of deciding which model of hand vac to buy, I ran into a number of confusing issues.First, before this purchase (of 2 hand vacs), I have never bought any hand held vac that was NOT a Black & Decker DUST BUSTER. I suppose that is because they were the first to have a cordless/rechargeable hand vac, and inertia took over when it came time for me to replace them. By the time the thrill of having that first rechargeable hand held vac wore off, there were other companies making hand held vacs, but I stuck with B&D's DB's. I cussed them out over various things - mostly they just weren't very good. There were few choices of model; the accessories from one generation didn't fit the next generation even when the next generation came on the market with no accessories (dust brush, crevice tools, etc.). This was one of the few times in my life I put up with any serious product dissatisfaction. Shortly after I purchased my... 5/5 One Tree in the Forest (Del Rio, Tennessee, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Works very well but does *not* feel secure on the wall mount

This is a very nice little vacuum. I keep it in my garage, near the entrance from the kitchen, and use it for small jobs like cleaning the kids' crumbs off the car seats and floors, sucking up bugs and spiderwebs from the garage wall, cleaning food crumbs from crevices in the kitchen, and removing dust and crumbs from my computer keyboards and monitors. It has a small retractable brush that is very useful for car cleaning, and a plastic nozzle that can flip forwards to extend the reach, which is good for cleaning things high up and sucking up bugs.Apparently this device has a smart charger which does not simply keep the battery at full charge all the time but optimizes the recharging to extend the battery life. I have certainly not noticed any deterioration in the battery in the several months I have owned this vacuum.Opening the device to empty out the dirt is easy. Most of the dirt just drops out into the garbage. I like to use my central vac nozzle to... 3/5 PAUL BRADSHAW (CT, USA) - See all my reviews, April 1, 2011

    This Bag Versus "Microfresh" Bags

When I first got my Dirt Devil Vacuum I ordered these bags by mistake instead of the "Microfresh" Dirt Devil Bags. These bags are cheaper than the "Microfresh" bags but they are more porous and do not contain small particles as well. For most people its probably worth the extra money to buy the "Microfresh" bags. These bags would be good to use if you just got new carpet and want some cheap bags to pick up all the shedding of fibers. 3/5 ReviewBag - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) vacuum belts worked like they should

i ordered the belts because i noticed that i would roll over things that should have been easily picked up, but weren't even though the motor / suction was strong so figured out i needed a new belt. even w/o instructions the arrows on the bottom told me exactly what to do and after removing the 5 screws (cleaned the roller brush, but not a necessity) the belt fit right in place and the vacuum was as good as new!! i've had this vacuum for at least 5 years and still works like a charm just replace filters and the belt for the first time and it's still going! dirt devil is just a nicely design vacuum cleaner. 5/5 DEW (Baltimore, MD USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Terrific Performer and Outstanding Value

Approximately three years ago, my $200 Eureka vac finally stopped working and I purchased the featherlite to replace it. At that time I lived in a 1,400 sf apartment. Now I live in a 2,500 sft home. For the past three years, this vacuum has served our family well. Pros:1. Inexpensive. $40 or less in most places.2. It picks up dirt, fuzz (and legos) as well or better than any other vacuum I've ever used. Really. Just change the bag when it gets full.3. Light weight. It's very easy to manuver and my younger kids can use it.4. Simplicity. This is a basic vac. It's easy to change the bag, wind the cord, and pull hair/crud out of the roller if necessary.5. It's got a bag. This is a personal preference, but every bagless upright I've ever used creates a small dust storm when you empty it. The bag system on this one works well.Cons:1. I don't expect it to go past 5 years. works fine after a year

I was suprised to see that some of the other reviews portray this vacuum as useless. I bought mine from Target a year ago and it works wonderfully. Only complaints is that it's still pretty 'clunky' to carry around and that when you want to use the attachments it's hard to get the hose out. I've gone through a Shark brand vacuum that broke after 2 uses and an Orek XL that ate it's own cord but couldn't pick up Cheerios that my daughter spilled. I've had bad luck with vacuums but this one is doing just fine after 200+ uses. 4/5 R. McHenry (MN, USA) - See all my reviews, December 19, 2008

Can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch but breaks

UPDATE After about 5 Months the part of the hose that connects to the motor ( see my pic) has had a piece break off that locks on the little peg; and now the end of the hose has a vertical crack in it where the attachments would connect. My concern all along after assembling this was the durability factor.I have a rainbow canister that I have decided to retire do the intensive assembly required for its operation. You have to fill the tank with water then place it it's caddy, place the motor on top of tank and then attach the hose from the power head to the motor. Then do the reverse to empty the water from the tank. So I decided to get an upright that you can just plug in and go.I'm not sold yet on the bag less uprights so I decided to go with the old tried and true one's with a bag. I first looked at the Eureka Upright Vacuum Cleaner 1934A, had an impressive review but no attachments and only a 5 amp motor and a little more than I wanted to spend... 1/5 Gerald Balmes "Jerry B" (Washington) - See all my reviews, October 6, 2009

    Still a great hand vac!

I bought a Dirt Devil hand vac in the early 1980's because the carpet salesman where I bought my new carpet told me it would be far superior for use on stairs than the attachment that came with my upright (Rainbow) vacuum cleaner. He was right and I also loved that hand vac for cleaning my upholstered furniture. I bought a Dyson Animal vacuum cleaner last year and I wish I could say that the upholstery attachment sucks, but it doesn't, and it is hard to put on and take off of the hose. I like the Dyson for my carpets but am not at all impressed with their attachments. So, today I bought this Dirt Devil Classic and it is great! I read the reviews here and others were complaining about some of the other models. This hand vac has a belt and the belt can be replaced. The owner of the vac shop told me the difference between the models that are receiving the complaints here and the Classic 0100 that I bought today is that the others are air driven and mine is belt driven and that's... 4/5 Joanne Reynolds "Joanne" (Mansfield, Texas) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil 100 Classic 7 Amp Bagless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen) I bought a Dirt Devil hand vac in the early 1980's because the carpet salesman where I bought my new carpet told me it would be far superior for use on stairs than the attachment that came with my upright (Rainbow) vacuum cleaner. Much better than the old model!

I purchased this vacuum ($40+tax at Best Buy) to replace my old red Dirt Devil with the bag and onboard tools. The tools on my old one were constantly falling off while I was vacuuming. This new model is a HUGE improvement! The suction is amazing! I used it on our carpeted stairs that I just had steam cleaned last week and was surprised at all the junk it sucked up. The clear dirt cup is much better than the disposable bags and emptying it is a breeze. I like how the tools attach and the crevice tool seemed to work well. The cord is long enough to vacuum the entire stairway and then some. I would recommend this vaccum to anyone who is tired of lugging their upright up and down the stairs! 5/5 K. I thought I liked it, but then...

I started out liking this machine, despite being not so fond of our former Dirt Devil "screamer" with the ridiculous belt changing routine. The problems with this machine are: try cleaning the pleated filter (good luck!) and the exhaust blowing out the sides and then slightly downward blows around what you're trying to vacuum up. I am really surprised no one else has mentioned these two issues (except for one person who mentioned the filter). After just one use, I had to knock the pleated filter against the trash can to loosen and remove the dirt--no go. So what are the options? Leave the dirt in there to continually clog it, and then be forced to go buy a new one for $5.99? I honestly think this was the goal of Dirt Devil, just to make an extra buck. And if you're trying to vacuum up pet hair, and anything light weight, watch it blow around from the exhaust as you go chasing it with the vacuum (utterly futile). It's on the loud side too. Great suction power but my ear is ringing!!

I purchased this 12 amp Dirt Devil after my 6 amp Eureka broke from 3 years of weekly use. I was very happy with my original 6 amps of power. However, I decided it was time to double up since I live with two cats that constantly shed. The DD does a great job at picking up furballs, sand, dirt, crumbs, small pebbles and many more from my hardwood and tile floors. Besides a great suction power, the DD is also light weight and stands up on its own. However, there are many drawbacks:1) Too LOUD!! I wear ear plugs every time I use this machine (seriously!!). We already know it has 12 amps of power... we don't need to hear it!2) The handle is too short. I am 5 feet 6 inches and I honestly feel that the handle is about 2-3 inches too short. I constantly find myself bending my back while using this machine.3) The vaccum head does not swivel. I loved the fact that my old Eureka had the ability to swivel. It definitely made vaccuming easier. 4) Air shoots out of the side... 2/5 LazyCats "LazyCats" (Muttontown, NY) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Woohoo Power!

I live in a dorm room, therefore I have very thin carpet in a very small living space. Nonetheless, I would still like it to be clean. So, I came to dilemma of whether to buy a full size vacuum or go for something smaller. My family has always bought Dirt Devils - from a full size vacuum down to the small handheld Scorpion, and we've always had excellent results. Great power, long life, sturdy, etc. So, in my quest for the perfect vacuum, I found the Power Stick. What caught my eye was the specified use for dorm rooms. I figured the price was right, free shipping, and ordered it right away. Dang is this vacuum powerful! It's as powerful as a full-size vac, yet only half the size and weight. Granted it is really loud, but I don't mind that as it takes no time whatsoever to get hte vacuuming done. I got my entire room done in less than a minute, but my floor is extremely clean. Sucks so hard it's scary

I bought this unit because it had a "reasonable" 12 amp motor. I figured it would actually pick up dirt even without a beater bar. I was right more than I ever expected, in fact thats my only complaint. It is so powerful, that the outbound air often hits your legs with a high velocity blast of warm air and bounces around your work area moving the dirt and dust devils around. Other than that it is great. Light, extremly powerful, and easy to maneuver into corners. Be aware however, the motor is so powerfull that ocasionally you will feel like you have a bucking bronco in hand when you turn it on.Summary Pro and Con.Pro:1. Extremly powerful2. Light3. Easy to maneuver.4. Easy to store using a hook on the wall5. No bags to buy6. Outstanding priceCon:1. Startling when started (trys to twist out of your hand)2. Loud3. Small dirt holder4. Head of unit hangs down with "detents" to hold in your desired position... 5/5 Calvin Thomas (Torrance, CA United States) - See all my reviews, November 13, 2003

    This thing sucks

I got this vacuum for thirty bucks so keep that in mind. There are units out there that cost ten times that. So how does the Dynamite Plus stack up? It sucks! Very, very well. I don't think I have ever used a vaccum that had such powerful suction. I bought a Dirt Devil cordless unit (the one that no one seems to like) about a year ago and it was garbage. I wondered if anyone really needed cordless while in the confines of their own home. Most likely not. Why not trade the dubious benefits of cordless for maximum sucking power? For the price there is proably no vacuum made that is more powerful. So why only 4 stars? Despite a vacuum that seems well built, convenient, light, bagless, portable, etc., there is one thing that is insanely ridiculous about the Dynamite Plus' design. All of that powerful suckiing power shoots right out a front grill of the vacuum. Like a tornado!!!! The first time I used it was in the kitchen it it literally blew all of the photos and notes off my... 4/5 PhotoGraphics (Arizona) - See all my reviews, December 6, 2007

    Good for small spaces

You really can't beat the price for the quality and ability of this little vacuum cleaner. But beware, it is little, best for smaller spaces or an apartment. The suction and hose attachment function well. It's very portable and easy to remove the canister. Although getting all the debris out of it takes a good amount of shaking. All in all a nice option if you don't have a lot of square footage and want a light, little cleaner. 3/5 HelpfulInfo "D" (Mahwah, NJ) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) As Good As Recommended

Haven't had the unit long enough to be very critical. The unit is only 7 amps but seems to pick up dirt like a 10 amp, lots of power to work the brush's and suck up the dirt. So far it seems to be a good value for the money.**** CAUTION:Amazon recommended purchasing replacementbelt and filter with the Dynamite vaccum except that they recommended the WRONG belt and filter. Having not purchased the Dynamite before I went with what Amazon recommended which turned out to be the F-12 belt and F-1 Hepa Filter which are incorrect. The Dynamite vaccum uses a F-15 belt and a F-2 Hepa Filter so be very careful to order the correct belt and filter if you decide to order this vaccum...do not rely on Amazon's recommendations or their customer service. 4/5 usgabear - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) A great little vacuum

Two cats and two fabric-covered couches, can you feel my pain? After a while, I was going nuts. I'd go broke buying the adhesive type lint rollers, the rubber ones (search for "sweepa") and the reusable brush type didn't do the job. All I'd heard about was dysons, dysons, dysons, so I started saving. But then I thought, hey, what I want is the little motorized roller brush attachment -- so I got online, started searching, and found this. I figured $40 as opposed to $500 was worth a try, especially with the good reviews.and it *was*. It gets all the cat hair off my couch, and the nice thing is that the hose just tugs right out and you can also get the little cracks and crevices without missing a beat. The "riser visor" thing, I thought was kinda silly til I started using it -- and it's great. You can vacuum horizontally and vertically, and for furniture, stairs, etc--a great feature. My only complaint is that it's just a *bit* heavy, especially for longer... 5/5 yupi (Long Island NY USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) A Perfect Machine.

I'd planned to get the small Dyson, but the reviews of this vacuum persuaded me to give it a try. It's absolutely excellent. It's the best handheld vacuum I've ever tried, and I've thrown more of these things away than I can remember. Fortunately, I've always saved the attachments. Sometimes they fit another model, sometimes they don't. Since there's no fancy coupling required to attach tools to the hose end of this one, its just friction, most fit it.This is a solid, powerful vacuum. The filter is heavy-duty and seems very durable. It's easily removed and reattached. I use those over-priced compressed air duster cans to blow all the dust and dog hair off of the filter. Between this and my full-size Dyson, there's probably more of the family dog outside the house than in by now. As for the weight of this machine, it is a little heavy, but then I only have to support its weight when doing vertical surfaces or carrying it around. When it's vacuuming stairs and furniture, I... 5/5 SLP (Elk Grove, CA United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I was Dramatically Impressed.

I have a cat. The cat has fur.I bought the Eureka EZ-Kleen to get the fur off the furniture.Did it ever.I was slackjawed with amazement to see the sheer amount of cat hair the little machine got up off visually pristine sofas and carpets. While Kitty does not have the Olympic shedding capabilities of my late hound dog, she still produces about an inch of vacuum cleaner fill per day. This is a great little machine and I will recommend it from the housetops. 5/5 Nancy Beiman "Northernexpress" (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Terrible execution of a clever idea

I was excited to receive this product as a gift. I use a keyboard about 12 hours a day, and require a clean working environment. This product was a disappointment. The design is awkward to hold. It takes up a lot of room, as it must be set on a flat surface (no wall mount). The brush/nozzle attachment doesn't stay in the back of the unit like it is supposed to, and it goes flying every time I pick up the unit. The suction is atrocious! I will see hair or a big piece of dust on my keyboard and it simply will not suck it up. A quick exhale through rounded lips removes more dust that this useless thing. Also, I'm a little bit worried that people are going to think it's some sort of teledildonic device, being shaped the way it is and being plugged in to my computer. Just sayin'.Recommended alternatives are cans of compressed air for deep dirt removal, and Swiffer Dusters for routine dust removal. 1/5 Mark Jaquith "Mark Jaquith" (FL, USA) - See all my reviews, June 25, 2009

Good mini-vac, but only USB Power

I bought this thinking it would be so handy to help get crumbs and dust out of drawers, cabinets and of course my desk area. The design is sleek and modern, the vacuuming capability is good (what you would expect from a dust buster). My only issue with the product, and it is a big one, is that the only way to charge it is by USB which means it has to live near my computer. My desk if cluttered enough without a mini vacuum on it, I really wish that the USB power supply was an option and not mandatory. If you have the space near your computer then you shouldnt have an issue, otherwise you may want to just want to look for another small vacuum. 3/5 Alden Alvarado "AJ Moore" (West Seattle) - See all my reviews This review is from: Dirt Devil BD10000SLV KWIK Handheld Vacuum Cleaner and Detailer (Kitchen) I bought this thinking it would be so handy to help get crumbs and dust out of drawers, cabinets and of course my desk area. Dirt Devil Kwik Vacuum

I bought this for our computers at home. It is not powerful nor will the brush attachment stay where it is supposed to stay. That is annoying. Although it is USB connected and attractive, it is not worth the money I paid for it. 1/5 D. Lassiter "IPOD MAN" (ALABAMA) - See all my reviews, January 23, 2009
