Excellent vac: mostly pros, with few cons

We have four vacuum cleaners, and it's not because we're neat freaks. It's exactly the opposite. We keep hoping for the one vacuum that will clean our house with the least effort. Each succession of vacuum cleaner gets smaller and smaller, especially after we discovered we can pay our 5-year old 50 cents to clean the carpet. Between this and the Eureka "The Boss Superlite", they're our favorites. Here are some of the real pluses of the system, followed by the negatives:PROS: Great suction, especially on fine dust Very lightweight, our kid (5 years old) can operate it Retractable handle makes it easy to carry around (we're short people) Retractable handle makes it easy to store InexpensiveCONS: The HEPA filter attracts dust very quickly and needs to be cleaned each time (is this a plus or a minus?) Anyhow, it's a messy job. The front face could be a fraction smaller... 5/5 Charlotte (Fremont, CA, United States) - See all my reviews, December 3, 2006

Great for In-Between Fast Clean Ups

Overall, it's a really good vac. I wouldn't use this for a whole house, but for a small upstairs or downstairs, or a two bedroom (or smaller) apartment. The narrow cleaning path is great for going in between tight spaces w/o moving everything around. The 12 amp motor is powerful and has great suction for under $100.It is constructed pretty well, except for the cheap plastic wheels that feel flimsy and squeak right out of the box.As with ANY bagless vac, to keep suction strong at all times, you have to clean the filter every single time you use it (especially with pets). If you don't want to be bothered cleaning it every time, then be fair, dont buy this machine and don't give it poor ratings. Get a bagged vac ... or a maid. For those reviewers who say it died 3 or 4 times - it is not dieing. It is overheating because the filter is not clean. The filter needs to be cleaned every one or two uses, not when the dust bin fills up to the max... 3/5 Rick "Rick" (Atlanta) - See all my reviews This review is from: Eureka Optima Lightweight Upright Vacuum, 437AZ (Kitchen) Overall, it's a really good vac. Actually, this is the best vac among 3 vacuums I have.

Pros: Saction power, light weight, good performance on different surfaces (hardwood, tile, carpet, carpetted stair), great value!Cons: Dirty and cumbersome to clean the filter, noisyI have 3 vacuum cleaners--large and heavy upright for carpet, cordless stick vac for picker-upper, and Eureka Optima for all-round cleaning. This has the best saction and versatility among all, and for the first time, I feel I can stop my pursuit of a good vac cleaner. After trying so many cleaners, I now have realistic expectation. Even a good vac has some shorcomings, and you need to know what your priority is. In this case, cleaning the waste bin and filter is very messy and cumbersome. Because Eureka Optima has very good saction, the filter catches so much fine dust very quickly. I need to dust if off almost everytime I vacuum, and it is not fun. However, for me, can-vacuum-anywhere versatility and light weight make up for it.I recommend Eureka... 4/5 gracesantacruz (Santa Cruz, CA United States) - See all my reviews Pros: Saction power, light weight, good performance on different surfaces (hardwood, tile, carpet, carpetted stair), great value!Cons: Dirty and cumbersome to clean the filter, noisyI have 3 vacuum cleaners--large and heavy upright for carpet, cordless stick vac for picker-upper, and Eureka Optima for all-round cleaning. Vacuum fine....horrible rigid/stiff cord

The vac itself is great. Great pickup, bagless canister works/empties well.It has the most stiff/rigid cord I can recall having on an indoor appliance. It's difficult to work with while vacuuming. You have to take extra special care that the cord doesn't kink because you'll be vacuuming away (I use it for the stairs and the area near the litter box - in my den) and pull the cord out of the wall. It doesn't coil nicely onto the machine itself either.I give the vac an A+, but the cord gets an F. I would not recommend this product for regular use. 1/5 Corey (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews This review is from: Eureka 442B SuperLite Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen) The vac itself is great. OK

It has good pick up power on hard surfaces and on flat carpet. However, the wheels are low and flimsy - which requires quite of bit of hand/arm strength even for flat carpet (though it moves well on hard surfaces). And there is NO foot lever from upright to tilt position - which added to the flimsy wheels, it can't make over even the smallest of throw rugs, or over the lip between rooms, because it wants to be in tilted position as soon as you move it and the wheels are too low and flimsy to provide any leverage to get over anything. It is frustrating that it tilts so easily that you can't have it in upright position to move it more easily (due to the wheels) from one room to the other - this vacuum unfortunately is not one that I would want for daily use on my low carpets; though works well, and has good pick up power, on bare floors.I had bought it because I have hand problems and I was looking for something light to use daily for my large home due... 3/5 review (CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Eureka 442B SuperLite Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen) It has good pick up power on hard surfaces and on flat carpet. However, the wheels are low and flimsy - which requires quite of bit of hand/arm strength even for flat carpet (though it moves well on hard surfaces). And there is NO foot lever from upright to tilt position - which added to the flimsy wheels, it can't make over even the smallest of throw rugs, or over the lip between rooms, because it wants to be in tilted position as soon as you move it and the wheels are too low and flimsy to provide any leverage to get over anything. great little vac

I bought this vac because I was looking for something small quick clean-up in a room with both wood floors and large wool area rug. It is perfect for the job and has super suction for such a small vacuum and it cleans the whole width of the vacuum-not just in the middle.I agree that all the debris stays up by the bag but I clean it everytime and use a pet brush to remove the stuff that sticks. All bagless vacs have some of this issue. I'm always amazed at the amount there is to remove each time. It's just two of us, no pets, and I vacuum a couple times a week and sweep the wood floors in between. If you don't mind a little extra work dealing with the filter, I'd recommend this for someone who wants a smaller everyday vacuum. I've gotten an extra filter to put in when I don't have time to deal with cleaning it. 4/5 clooless - See all my reviews This review is from: Eureka 443B SuperLite Upright Vacuum (Kitchen) I bought this vac because I was looking for something small quick clean-up in a room with both wood floors and large wool area rug. Quite possibly the worst Vacuum ever made

Could this vacuum be more poorly designed? I doubt it. I mean, the vacuum itself is cute-- very lightweight, green and white plastic, which caught my eye. But it's like they never thought of how it would actually work.I have ONE cat-- and two children. That's it. I vacuum a couple of times a week.I couldn't make one full pass through the house without the filter clogging with dust. Just awful. And the hair and dust sticks to the filter-- it doesn't drop into the canister-- so it's like a giant dustball right up near the top, until you empty it, which is every five minutes.Did they even test this unit before they put it out on the market? It was cheap, which is why I bought it, but oh boy! This vacuum isn't worth five dollars, much less $50. I wish I could post pictures so you could see what I mean. This vacuum is awful! Good thing I came up with a idea

My vacuum I had used for years, quit. I was sad to see it go. It was an amazing piece ofmachinery and a Eureka. I told my daughter about it finally quitting. She surprised meby ordering the Eureka Super-lite 26.0. I was so excited. It was cute in color and soeasy to put together. I plugged it in raring to go. What a joke. Everything that camethru into the canister didn't settle into the canister but onto the cloth filter. Imean EVERYTHING! Being a country farm gal,I sat and thought about this, and the moneymy daughter generously spent on this useless piece of junk.I knew that I would literallybe washing the outside of that filter after every use. It would take days for it to dry. Then I thought,Bounty. I tooka full size Bounty paper towel, and beginning along the outside of the filters edges,I folded the Bounty to fitthe filter on the outside. What a bargain!!!

I have had a Boss Superlite since August of 2005 and love its light weight, power, and convenience. I have a long-haired dog (Pekingese) who sheds quite a bit and this little vac seems to pick up every single hair! It has very powerful suction and the dust cup is washable if you dont want to purchase replacements. My favorite feature is the small transparent window between the brushroll and the tank which can be opened to remove clogs. I admit it can be a little bit messy when emptying the canister, but I have owned several bagless uprights in the past with similar experiences. I plan to have this vacuum for a very long time. 5/5 Jen the RN (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews I have had a Boss Superlite since August of 2005 and love its light weight, power, and convenience. Used to love it, but not so much now! Wish Amazon would allow me to change star rating; I'd give it 3 stars now.

April 17, 2007: I think any negative reviews may be from people who are trying to use this vacuum as a whole house vacuum and it's not made for that. We bought this vacuum to replace the Eureka Boss 402A (yellow vacuum) Eureka Boss Super Light Upright Stick Vacuum - 402A. We needed a vacuum for the kitchen floor and rugs. We have three dogs and one cat. I have tried practically every kitchen vacuum on the market and so far the Eureka 442A is the best! It is a wonderful improvement over the Eureka Boss 402A (yellow vacuum). It is quieter, it's smoother to handle, the brush roll is wider, it does a good job cleaning. This one even vacuums up the dry leaves that make it into our attached garage. I wiped our vacuum down with fabric softener to prevent static build-up which could make dog hair stick to the vacuum. You could probably use a dryer sheet to wipe it down, too.Update as of June 6, 2007: After using this product for a couple of months now, I have encountered a couple... 5/5 maryteresafaith - See all my reviews This review is from: EUREKA MINI BOSS UPRIGHT VAC 442A (Kitchen) April 17, 2007: I think any negative reviews may be from people who are trying to use this vacuum as a whole house vacuum and it's not made for that. I just love my little Eureka bagless vacuum- it's lightweight, picks up cat hair and crumbs easily. No need to drag out the big heavy one. The price is easy, compared to the big ones, many of which don't do as good a job!! Can easily be taken upstairs. I heartily reccomend it. 5/5 Ernestine U.
