    Very Disappointing

This little vacuum could not handle our floors! We have cement floors, with a few very thin and flat, antique Oriental rugs scattered here and there. The robot vacuum kept getting hung up on the almost microscopic distance between the rugs and the floor. Whether it was trying to go up, ON to a rug from the cement, or go down, OFF of a rug back onto the cement, 9 times out of 10, or more, it would hang, and then stall, and then STOP. Maddening.Yes, it is loud, but that didn't matter, it probably isn't much louder than most regular vacuum cleaners. Yes, when it wasn't hung up on something, it was very slow moving across the floor, but that was alright too -- I figure that the slower a vacuum goes across the floor, the more thoroughly it is getting it clean. And besides, who cares how long it takes, if I'm not the one having to do the work?If only this thing could have managed to actually clean the floor more than a few tiny itty bitty INCHES at a time without... 1/5 Lady Quixote (Southwest, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: iTouchless Robotic Intelligent Vacuum Cleaner PRO (Kitchen) This little vacuum could not handle our floors! It doesnt work on carpet.

I received this item last week. After fully charging it, i found out it doesnt work on carpet. My carpet is ordinary one. It works 2 seconds on carpet, but works well on hardwood floor. If you want to use it on hard floor, it will be OK. But not on carpet at all. 1/5 S. Works good so far

I've been using this twice a day for the 5 days that I've had it, and few complaints so far. The run time is around 6 hours on max clean, it does a through job of picking up debris, and it is not too loud.Sometimes during cleaning it gets stuck under furniture and will shut off. You will want to be sure to pick up things off the floor before hand to reduce this problem. The machine is easy to clean and care for, and I find it needs to be emptied after each use.I live with 5 dogs in my home, and this is a great solution for me! 4/5 Emily F. New Roomba vs. Old

If you are new to Roomba, you will wonder if it is worthwhile. The answer is clearly YES, since anything it cleans is that much less for you to clean. However, which is better, the old (and cheaper) Roomba, or the new models like the 530?First, the 530 comes with the charging/base station, and this is very useful. I have placed this in the entranceway which leads into the livingroom, the kitchen or the bedroom. Using the virtual walls (included), I block off rooms so that it can only do the entranceway + 1 other room. I simply press the "Clean" button, and it backs itself off the charging stand and then spends the next 2 hours cleaning, finally returning to the charging stand. Nice!Should you upgrade from an older model Roomba (I now use my old Roomba upstairs)? It depends on your situation. By-the-way, the old virtual walls do NOT work with the new Roomba.New Roomba:Fall down stairs? NeverClimb onto thick throw rugs... 4/5 D. C. It's Like a Beloved Pet Who MAKES EVERYTHING BETTER

Awesome. This new generation fixes all the problems of the previous. Much smarter, much bigger dust bin, much better in every way. Great that it self-docks when tired. Maintanence is a snap...really could not be easier/faster. There are some negatives - how could there not be? - but this thing has such a contagious personality that it starts feeling like your pet, and you're inclined to forgive, and even find the faults charming. You have to prep the room (cords up and out of the way, no papers or clutter on the floor, move small items out of the room and learn which objects present problems and get them out of the way). Performance varies on throw rugs (it's great on rug/carpet surfaces themselves, but Roomba can get caught up as it travels over edges of throw rugs that don't have much weight or cling). It's good at slowing down and banging objects gently, but less so on narrow vertical objects (e.g. piano legs), which it really clunks (not enough to damage, but it will... 5/5 New Yawkuh "New Yawkuh" (Queens, NY United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: iRobot 530 Roomba Vacuuming Robot, White (Kitchen) Awesome. A Great Product Made Even Better

With two dogs in the house we could not live without our Roomba. The 530 is a vast improvement from earlier models. It seems to pick up more dirt, the battery life is longer, the fast-charge is about 33% more rapid than its Discovery predecessors and it is generally more quiet. The new sensors that prevent the robot from "speed-bumping" into furniture are a very nice touch, but beware if the robot is in a tight area, it may appear sluggish -- the sensors are working to continually slow it down. It's a feature I like, but need to get used to.My only concern with this robot is the high cost of parts. The bot itself is cheaper than earlier models but the components most prone to breakage or wear-out are twice the cost so the lifetime operation costs may be higher. Replacement batteries are nearly $100. Earlier models were $50.ONE MONTH LATER ....This is a slight amend to my review above. Having used it for a month a couple points of... 5/5 damg1 "damg" (Tulsa, OK) - See all my reviews This review is from: iRobot 530 Roomba Vacuuming Robot, White (Kitchen) With two dogs in the house we could not live without our Roomba. WORKS GREAT!! You need to know the details before you do this!

You need to know that iRobot corp. makes it difficult to change this battery. After removing the screws, I found that the yellow battery case lid is glued to the bottom of the case. You need a couple of straight, small screwdrivers to slowly tap open the glue seam much like a diamond cutter uses a tiny chisel to tap cut a diamond. I had to tap the seam every 1/4 inch to break it loose. Hit it too hard and your cost savings are gone if you break the case at the attachment points - you would need to buy the whole battery pack - so only do this if you are careful and patient. Removing the old battery pack also is challenging if you are not the careful type as it is glued to the base of the case internally. Cutting the wires and soldering the leads is easy but there is no room for any other attachment method so you had better be confident in your soldering skills. This is not a job for the impatient person and you had better have all the right tools but since I am a nerd geek, I... 5/5 Som Gop "Reasonable nerd geek" (CENTRAL FLORIDA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Works great, but you had better be "handy"

The good news is this product works as advertised and is significantly less expensive than other full battery replacements (which include the outer case). The bad news is you have to be prepared to do quite a bit of work to disassemble the old battery case, replace the old batteries inside, and reassemble the case -- all without instructions. This is why my overall rating is only 3 stars (due to the complexity of the install). In detail, here are the steps you'll need to know: 1) For pictures and some basic online instructions, do a Google search for "batteryspace NiMH IRobot Roomba" (without the quotes). 2) Start by removing the battery case from Rumba (simple). 3) Using the provided screwdriver, unscrew the Rumba battery case 4) If the top lid does not easily come off after unscrewing the triangular screws, it is likely that your case is also glued shut (most seem to be this way). You'll need to use extreme caution and patience to carefully... 3/5 David C. Novak "Dave Novak" (Lawrenceville, Georgia) - See all my reviews, September 2, 2008

A "new" battery for less than half the cost.

My Roomba would only run a maximum of 10 minutes per charge, so I suspected the battery was the issue. I priced out replacement batteries, but it seemed the cost was prohibitive considering I could buy a entirely new Roomba for only $25-$30 more than the battery itself.I finally located the Tenergy replacement cells and thought this was a good option. I replaced the cells of my Roomba APS battery (the yellow one) with minimal effort. I removed the screws of the battery case with the triangle shaped screwdriver which was included with the kit. The case of the battery was a little difficult to pry open but once it was I simply cut the three wires from the old battery and removed it.I then soldered the new battery pack leads into place. There are three color coded leads (red, black, white) and you just need to match the colors. I suppose it wouldn't be absolutely necessary to solder these, but I didn't want to deal with a loose connection down the road. I... 4/5 Craig Warrington (USA) - See all my reviews, June 23, 2008

    Worth the money!!!!!!!!

I have purchased this product for my Irobot Roomba about a week ago. I have been using the same filter for about 6 month cleaning the filter every week but decided it was time for me to replace them. First, I wasn't sure if it will be the right fit or the filter would have the sufficient threading to let just right amount of air through and catch all the dust. Once I have received this product, I was sure that it would do the job, and I was right. The filter fitted right in, and filteration thread wasnt too thin or thick. It didnt tear!!!! In another 6 month, I will buy from this seller again.!!! 5/5 Jae Kang - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Pleased with Verro 300

I was on the fence about purchasing the IRobot Verro 300 OR the commonly recommended Polaris cleaners. With a $100 off coupon and a 30 day risk free trial, I decided to purchase the Verro 300. We have a large pool (20 x 44)and I was skeptical that this would work. After a couple weeks of using it and at least 3 calls to the technical support line, we decided to keep it and that overall it works very well. Though it isn't written in the manual (I learned this from my phone calls) periodic-filter-bag-cleaning (for my pool anyway) translates to machine wash cleaning after each use. For those of you reading this, buy extra filter bags and keep one clean at all times ready to go. I found the hose method of cleaning the filter bag doesn't work. Instead, I rinse the bag out with the hose and then I run it through the washing machine on the delicate cycle in cold water. It works great--climbs the walls to the tile line and gets both the deep and shallow end of my pool. Each time I use... 4/5 S. Works good enough

I decided to try the Verro 300. It did a superb job on most of the pool, but some areas were a problem for it.Verro is a simple device. It has a long floating electrical cord that powers a vacuum pump that sucks water through a filter bag. The water is expelled out at the top horizontally which propels it around the pool. One wheel axle swivels a bit so it doesn't always travel a straight line. A power unit sits outside the pool, tells the verro whether to shoot the water out forward or backwards. An adjustment dial allows you to set how long before switching directions. There are two filter bags that come with the verro. A coarse mesh filter bag and a fine cloth filter bag. And the performance with each differs greatly. The coarse mesh filter bag with it's tiny holes will pick up leaves but it won't pick up fine dirt. That's what you need the fine cloth filter bag for. With the mesh filter bag, the verro does a good job traveling all over the pool... 4/5 Thomas in LA - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) iRobot Verra - Very good overall

I was looking for an automatic pool cleaner that didn't require hoses and potential clogging of the filter. This fit the bill. As a happy customer of Roomba, I decided to give this a try vs other competing products (e.g., Aquabot). Overall, the device performed very well - It got up all the debris including sand and small stones. My only slight negative is that it had a tendency to orient itself to clean more on the deep end than the shallow end, meaning that I had to run it on a few two hour cycles to get the pool fully covered. Also, in five cleanings so far it got stuck once on my staircase steps, but that might be an artifact of my pool design. Overall, however, so far I am very happy. 4/5 A. I received a "Rootooth" adapter as a Christmas present so I bought this book to expand on hacking Roomba. It is very detailed and easy to follow. The book assumes that you have some basic programming knowledge (i.e. MS VB, MS C#, MS C++, Java)to get the most out of it. You need to know how to compile and execute Java code to do the experiments in this book. It has some cool experiments and a lot of references to downloads for any utlities you will need to hack Roomba. I would highly recommend "Hacking Roomba" as a must have. 5/5 PJT "Paul" - See all my reviews This review is from: Hacking Roomba: ExtremeTech (Paperback) I received a "Rootooth" adapter as a Christmas present so I bought this book to expand on hacking Roomba. Roomba mods unleashed

Great book, I would suggest getting more than one roomba so you can mod one and still vac the floors. Top fun, all good info in one book, Yes you can get most of the info online but I think its better to have the directions at hand when halfway through a mod instead of rushing to look it up again link after link 4/5 jef (wisconsin) - See all my reviews This review is from: Hacking Roomba: ExtremeTech (Paperback) Great book, I would suggest getting more than one roomba so you can mod one and still vac the floors. Good book for newbie Roomba hackers and seasoned Roomba entusiasts

Thank you Tod for putting all of your (and some other Roomba enthusiasts) hacks in one place for easy reference. While my initial reason for buying the book was to read the section about my kids' business, myRoomBud, I was just as interested in the information to help with the multiple Roomba hacking projects I have underway. I am not a hardware guy so having an abundance of pictures and diagrams is essential for explaining the hacks. On the software side, every hack has source code making the hacks usable right from the get go. I cannot count the number of hacking books that only give you pseudo code that is often close to useless. OK, not great vacuum

I've used the Roomba 610 and 560. I now have two refurbished 560s in our house, at the same price as one 610. And it's definitely a better value. Before I talk about the 610, let me share what's good and bad about Roombas in general, based on my experience with both the 560s and 610:Pros:- You don't have to vacuum, the Roomba does it for you- Scheduled cleanings so you don't even have to worry about it or be home to hear the noise- Floors stay clean without much effort- One button start it and forget about itCons:- Absolute pain in the butt to clean these things. There's the two brushes, the front wheel, the spinning brush (which requires a screwdriver to remove), and the dust bin. All of these must be disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled, at least once per cleaning session.- It's not effort free. As I said above, lots to clean, which requires 5-10 minutes each time you want to run the Roomba.- With pets,... 3/5 Roopesh Sheth (San Diego, CA USA) - See all my reviews, November 29, 2009

Great for light upkeep, excellent customer service

We have five pets. Three elderly long haired cats and two large short haired dogs. We recently upgraded to a new home with a cream colored carpet and a mix of tile and linoleum in an open floor plan. What was I thinking? I was thinking I had three days to pick a house for a relocation is what I was thinking! But I digress. The carpet isn't perfect, it's five years old and the previous owners were pet owners too, but I was determined to keep it in good shape.I held out for the professional model despite the difference in price. I figured we had a professional level of hair here. Between one cat whose fur has the texture of cotton candy, another cat whose main hobby is tearing paper apart bit by bit, and the dogs with their rolling around on the floor I needed something that could stand up to the mess. I assumed I would need the larger debris bin to hold all the stuff that comes out of the carpet but actually after a few runs I felt that the smaller one with an air... 5/5 Noelle W Dempsey (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews This review is from: iRobot 610 Roomba Professional Series (Kitchen) We have five pets. This thing is great!

I got the professional series because I have a family of professional grade mess makers (kids, husband, pets, etc.). I love it! I think when people are dissatisfied with it they do not understand what it is and what it is not. It won't clean up an already neglected floor. You start with clean floors and then push a button everyday and let it run around your house doing upkeep and you won't have to vacuum anything except for behind items it can't get to once a month or so. Before my roomba I vacuumed 2 times a week and still dirt would show up on the bottom of peoples white socks. Since roomba no more dirt!!! It handles the cat fur and it even found an earring I lost over a year ago that must of been hiding someplace. The best part is it can get under things my vacuum never could reach. Yes, you have to know its limitations. It is a programmed device. You have to change something's around your home to work with it. Get wires off the floor so it won't get stuck, for instance... 4/5 Unna (NJ United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great but not perfect ***Downgraded Star Rating***

My wife and I decided to get one of these because our 8 month old son is about to start crawling. While we try and keep our floors clean, our beagle has other thoughts as she sheds all over the place. We went with the latest 560 model as it has just about everything we would want with a product like this. It works as advertised and we will definitley keep it but there are some areas that need improvement. Here is a quick breakdown of the pros and consPros1. Quieter than a standard vaccuum2. Seems to learn the room dimensions quickly. The virtual walls and lighthouse feature are very nice.3. Is "smart" enough to avoid getting tangled in our area rugs4. Obviously easy to use as it is just a push of a button (or even better when you program it)5. Can use everyday to keep the floors spotless6. Have successfully used it on hard wood, vinyl, carpet and (accidently) concrete7. Cleans under... 4/5 M. Kelley "mpkelley20" (Boston, MA United States) - See all my reviews, September 16, 2007

A Worthy Successor to the Roomba Line

We have two Roombas plus a Scooba in our house. When one of the batteries on one of our Roombas finally reached the end of its life cycle, we decided to donate that Roomba to a friend and to get ourselves the new top of the line - the Roomba 560. We got this right when it first came out, but we waited several months before posting a review. It's pretty much impossible to review one of these Roombas after only a few days! It takes weeks if not months to start to see how well they last over time, and what breaks down. Believe me - been there, done that.So now it's many months later, and I have to say, we are quite pleased with the improvements of this Roomba over the previous generations of Roombas. So first, for those who don't even have ANY Roomba yet (hard to believe!). Roombas are awesome. We have cats, and we work from home so we're home all day. It is AMAZING how much dirt and dust and junk collects in the carpet every single day. Who really has time to vacuum their... 5/5 Lisa Shea "medieval swordfighting enthusiast" - See all my reviews, December 12, 2007

Beware of the "new" Roomba 560 now only for single room (updated review)

UPDATE 12/19/2011My review in late 2007 describing the red side brush "amputee" problem and poor customer support is still the highest rated critical response on Amazon. Because of that experience, the recounting of which is in the original review appended below after this update, I had not bought an iRobot product in over four years. Now I have bought two "new" 560s, which arrived today (more about "new" below). This update is primarily for (i) previous owners of a 560 that are contemplating buying a "new" 560 or (ii) those that have information on the original 560 and mistakenly believe that this is what they will get if they order a "new" 560.If it were not for the problems discussed in this update, I would raise my rating to 3.5 stars. Once again, I think iRobot may be shooting itself in the foot. And what upsets me is that I really want to see this company succeed.By way of disclosure I have owned several of every generation of Roomba.
